Savannah, GA Welcomes Widespread Panic
Widespread Panic returns to Johnny Mercer Auditorium for the first time in nearly nine years. Johnny Mercer is located inside the much larger civic center, where panic normally plays to a crowd of 10,000. It was a rare treat to see the boys saddle up for two powerful nights at the 2,500 seat venue.
Widespread Panic clearly felt at home in Savannah and certainly showed the fans that they they can bring the heat…even in the middle of the week. The band chose to break out several rarities over the course of two days, many which shocked the most dire of fans. Such covers included Morning Dew, Lawyers Guns and Money and even Heathen, which had not been played since 2001.Though rare cover songs are always welcome, the band still played plenty of Panic. One of my favorite song groupings was Protein Drink > Sewing Machine, B of D > 1 x 1, Morning Dew > Coconut. From start to finish this segment was vibrant and brought the crowd to a fist pumping roar.
